Basic Info
Name:Walden Macnair, Laird of Braddock
Birthdate:10-13
Location:London, Threadneedle Street, United Kingdom
Bio
Name of Character:
Walden Macnair, Laird of Braddock.

Position:
Head of the Committee for the Disposal for Magical Creatures

Personality:
Macnair would probably have been better off in the 15th Century rather than the modern era, with a stubborn streak and a distinct unwillingness to compromise. However, his long experience with the dissection and study of magical creatures has given him great insight into the workings of men and monsters, and that there is definitely more than one way to skin a Kneazle.

Biography:
Macnair was the third and youngest son of Lawrence Macnair, the Laird of Braddock, a notoriously grim clan of wizards in the Scottish highlands. His eldest brothers were killed in the war against Grindelwald, and his mother drowned herself in the loch, although popular rumour had it that she was a Selkie who had entranced the Laird before leaving for her true home. The Laird withdrew from public life, sacking all the staff bar the gameskeeper and the butler. Before retiring to his chamber for three decades, the Laird gave Walden the choice of being bought up by the butler or the gameskeeper; the young boy decided on the latter, a vicious drunkard with a long-standing desire to wipe out all vermin, magical and Muggle, from the Braddock estates.

By the time Walden entered Hogwarts in 1949 and was sorted into Ravenclaw, his mentor’s ambition had grown inside him to include any threat to wizards, whether vicious beasts or Muggles. He took a unique approach to Unnatural History, provoking both the groundsman, one Rubeus Hagrid, and Professor Plank, the teacher, to plead for a change in the curriculum to remove dissections from Walden’s prodigous scalpel. Walden had come to realise that under the wildly improbably skins of magical creatures, they were not so different from humans, a notion that no doubt aided Voldemort in convincing Walden to join him as executioner.

Upon completing his education, Walden hoped to study under the renowned Newt Scamander, but was turned down due to his rough nature. Walden travelled to the heart of Africa to study creatures in his own time, discovering a number of new species, and being responsible for the extinction of at least one due to an over-exuberant approach to matters. He returned to Britain via the governments of a number of collapsing African states, acting as adviser to various dictators on control by fear and executions.

On his return to England, he found work in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, working first in the Werewolf Registry were he conducted a series of operations to prove that werewolves contained a similar physiology in either form, and thus could be seen as human and culpable for their actions. With the rise of Voldemort, Walden was recruited by an unknown Death Eater who saw his potential. He was then promoted to head the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures, which has enabled him to be instrumental in the recruitment of dangerous beasts and near-humans for the Cause. It is in this post that he has remained to 1981, the present day.
